Father’s Day Ride
FIELD NOTE No. 004A bicycle lets you travel faster than walking.
Children have a way of slowing it back down.
You stop for water.
You stop for photos.
You stop because someone found something worth looking at.
The miles matter less.
Distance changes with experience.
What once felt impossible eventually feels ordinary.
Not because the distance changed.
Because you did.
One day they’ll ride ahead and you’ll struggle to keep up.
Before that happens, there is a brief season when everyone moves at the same pace.
That’s worth noticing.
